Sigridur Halldorsdottir PhD (Dr. Med.)

Professor
Dr Halldorsdottir completed a Master’s degree at the UBC, Vancouver, Canada in 1988 and her PhD at Linköping University Sweden in 1996. She is a professor at the University of Akureyri, Iceland and lives in Akureyri, Iceland.

Sigrun Sigurdardottir PhD, RN

Associate Professor
Dr Sigurdardottir teaches at the School of Health Science at the University of Akureyri. She worked at the Police Academy of Iceland until 1993. Her research focuses on psychological trauma, violence, childhood sexual abuse, Holistic and Multi-disciplinary approach.She is with the Arctic Network: Northern Nursing Education  http://www.northernnursingeducation.com/. She was a founding member of the Research Center against Violence at the University of Akureyri.

Karen Birna Thorvaldsdottir, MSc, BA

Doctoral Student
Ms Thorvaldsdottir’s academic background is in psychology and health sciences, and her main research interest centers on help-seeking for trauma recovery, emphasizing socio-cultural barriers and facilitators. Other interests include developing and evaluating self-report measures, cognitive interviewing methodology, and a trauma-informed approach to research. She is currently working on her doctoral studies, where she is exploring the barriers that gender-based violence survivors in Iceland face while trying to seek and seeking help.

Hulda Bryngeirsdottir, MSc, RN

Doctoral Student
Ms Bryngeirsdottir is a nurse and a PhD Student at the University of Akureyri Iceland. Her research interests surround Posttraumatic Growth, psychological trauma and gender-based violence.
